If you are like me, you love a good coffee! I, for one, am pretty much solely an iced coffee drinker at all times of the year, and after weight loss surgery I discovered one of the best ways to get more protein in was via an iced coffee. Read more to find out just how easy it is to make the best protein coffee.
Enter PROFFEE.

The sensation that is sweeping the nation- well… maybe not, but definitely can be a hot topic within the weight loss community. This is one of the easiest and quickest ways to add some protein (and caffeine) to your morning and help you feel full and satisfied. The protein range can vary, but a solid PROFFEE should get you at least 15 grams of protein. You cannot go wrong with an iced coffee with protein to start your day!
WHY PROTEIN COFFEE ROCKS
- It is an easy way to get a good amount of protein for breakfast
- There are truly endless customization options: hot or iced- you decide. Milk or milk alternative- you pick. Protein powder or premade protein shake?- The choice is yours!

INGREDIENTS:
- Coffee base
- Cold brew
- Check out an easy cold brew recipe here
- Espresso
- I love using my Nespresso at home with double espresso pods but there are several types of espresso machines that will do the job!
- Instant coffee or instant espresso
- Brewed coffee (the stronger the better)
2. Milk base
- Regular milk
- oat milk
- almond milk
- macadamia nut milk (one of my faves!)
Note: if you are like me and like your liquids a bit thinner, you can always use half milk and half water, or use a ratio that you like.
3. Protein Powder (AKA high protein coffee creamer)
What is the best protein to mix with coffee? There are so many options and flavors. While I love the basic vanilla, I am excited to jump on the pumpkin spice train for the fall! Here are some fan faves below.
- Orgain (plant-based) protein
- Quest protein
- Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard
- Garden of Life Organic Vegan Protein
- Clean Simple Eats
4. Ice Cubes
- regular
- coffee ice cubes
- milk ice cubes
FUN TIP: Did you know you could throw all this in a blender for to make it a protein coffee smoothie? When I do this I add the ice and milk first and give it a “pre-blend” then I add the coffee and protein powder and blend just until smooth. It feels too “frothy” for me if I add the protein powder right away.
MAKIN’ IT EASY ALERT: In a hurry? Don’t you worry!
You could also easily use a prepared protein shake and add that to your coffee instead of milk and protein powder. These are some of the premade protein shakes I use:
Premier Protein
Quest
Fairlife
5. Pizazz (optional)
Truly the possibilities are endless when it comes to this step, but here are some ideas:
- Vanilla extract
- Stevia or Splenda
- Cinnamon
- Pumpkin spice
- Cocoa powder
- Sugar-free or regular coffee syrups
- Salted caramel
- Hazelnut
- Brown sugar cinnamon
- Smores
- Gingerbread
- Whipped cream
- Caramel sauce
